Verger (part time)

We are seeking a committed and flexible individual to join our team as a part-time Verger, supporting the worship and wider ministry of our church.

Hours:

• Core hours:  4 hours per week, worked across 2 days

• Additional hours: As required to complete irregular role tasks and to be available for baptisms, funerals, weddings, and special services (with notice).  Estimated an average 2 hours per week over a 12-month period

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the church

• Open and prepare the church for services and events, including setting up liturgical items

• Assist clergy and visiting ministers during baptism, wedding and funeral services

• Act as designated first‐aid person with oversight of first aid, accidents and other Health and Safety requirements

• Maintain the inventory of Church contents and maintain effective security of the Church

• Provide a welcoming presence to all visitors

• Support occasional events such as concerts or other church events / hires

The ideal candidate will:

• Be respectful of the church’s worship and traditions

• Be comfortable with manual tasks

• Have good interpersonal skills and a calm, reliable presence

• Be willing to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as needed

• A committed and reliable individual with a servant-hearted approach to ministry.

• A practical and organised team player with attention to detail

Hourly Rate £12.50
