We are seeking a committed and flexible individual to join our team as a part-time Verger, supporting the worship and wider ministry of our church.
Hours:
Core hours: 4 hours per week, worked across 2 days
Additional hours: As required to complete irregular role tasks and to be available for baptisms, funerals, weddings, and special services (with notice). Estimated an average 2 hours per week over a 12-month period
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the church
Open and prepare the church for services and events, including setting up liturgical items
Assist clergy and visiting ministers during baptism, wedding and funeral services
Act as designated first‐aid person with oversight of first aid, accidents and other Health and Safety requirements
Maintain the inventory of Church contents and maintain effective security of the Church
Provide a welcoming presence to all visitors
Support occasional events such as concerts or other church events / hires
The ideal candidate will:
Be respectful of the church’s worship and traditions
Be comfortable with manual tasks
Have good interpersonal skills and a calm, reliable presence
Be willing to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends as needed
A committed and reliable individual with a servant-hearted approach to ministry.
A practical and organised team player with attention to detail
